Unlike many individuals, Elizabeth Thorley knew early on she was destined to become a financial advisor. Analytical by nature, she enjoyed digging into the details of every issue she faced to uncover the most effective solution. But even more meaningful was Elizabeth's resolve to put her analytical thinking to work for the benefit of others.

"I've always been intrigued by the idea of doing research and figuring out how best to guide individuals to help meet their financial goals," said Elizabeth. After graduating from the University of Denver with an economics degree, she took on the role of research assistant at the board of governors for the Federal Reserve in Washington, DC. She got to address important macroeconomic issues, but Elizabeth knew her passion was helping individuals and families reach their dreams. That's why she made the move to become a personal financial advisor in 1987, working for Ameriprise (formerly IDS/American Express Financial Services).

Elizabeth believes many human behavioral issues cause us to get distracted from our financial goals. "That's what motivates me. I use my skills to help clients overcome these obstacles and figure out how to piece together the parts of their puzzle, so they know what they should be doing to reach their goals," said Elizabeth.

Elizabeth has since founded Thorley Wealth Management, Inc., to offer clients the benefits of an independent and comprehensive approach to financial planning. This structure gives the Thorley team access to more options and strategies without the pressure to meet sales quotas. "We are committed to doing what is in our clients' best interests."

Elizabeth is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Practitioner (CFP®), a Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®), an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®), and an Accredited Estate Planner® (AEP®). Elizabeth holds FINRA Series 6, 7, 63, and 65 securities registrations. In New York, she holds health and variable life insurance licenses and is certified in NYS Partnership Long-Term Care Insurance.

An active contributor to her community, Elizabeth serves as Board Chair of the Rochester Area Community Foundation, a member of the board at the Ronald McDonald House Charities, and she is on the Executive Committee of the Estate Planning Council of Rochester.

Elizabeth lives in Fairport, where she raised her two children, David and Vienna. In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys golfing, cooking, reading, and traveling. She is more than halfway toward reaching her goal of visiting every continent.

Sometimes we find that we don’t choose our career, but rather, it chooses us. That is the case with Megan Rinaudo, who started in college as a theatre major. Fortunately for our clients, instead of finding her way to the footlights, Megan discovered her passion for helping people reach their dreams, which brought her to us at Thorley Wealth Management.

After redirecting her studies and graduating from Niagara University with a bachelor’s degree in communications, Megan found herself working with a human resources, payroll, and benefits outsourcing firm. Eventually, she took on the role of helping people roll over their 401(k) plans to IRAs. It was during her many conversations with individuals about saving for retirement that Megan realized she wanted to do so much more to help people plan for their future.

“That’s when I took a leap of faith—aided by the encouragement of my supportive husband—and decided to pursue a career as a financial advisor,” Megan said. She went on to obtain her FINRA Series 6, 63, 65, and 7 securities registrations. She is also insurance licensed in Life, Accident, and Health. Megan’s commitment to providing a high standard of financial planning led her to fulfill the rigorous requirements to earn her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification.

Before joining Thorley Wealth Management in 2019, Megan was a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch. Her desire to further her career and embrace a deeper passion for financial planning led her to Thorley Wealth Management. It is Megan’s compassion, empathy, and the genuine way she cares about helping our clients prepare for their future that makes her a valuable member of our team.

Megan loves to volunteer her time. She has served as chair of the American Cancer Society’s Rochester Board of Advisors and is a member of their Planned Giving Advisor Council. Megan is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Rochester, the Rochester Area Community Foundation’s NextGen Rochester program and Professional Advisor Liaison Committee, and she volunteers with Junior Achievement and Fairport Music Festival.

Megan lives in Victor, NY with her adorable "Augie the Doggie". She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, visiting wineries of the Finger Lakes, and cheering on her beloved Buffalo Bills.

With a college degree in radio/TV broadcasting and an on-air gig as a disc jockey, Denise Werner was about as unlikely a candidate for a career in financial planning as one could get. However, when an opportunity came her way to join IDS Financial Services (now Ameriprise), Denise accepted a position as assistant to the vice-president -- while still spinning records on weekends.

It was at IDS where she first met Elizabeth Thorley, and it was at IDS where she discovered she enjoyed the challenges and opportunities of the financial services industry, enough so to set the DJ business aside.

"I like that I can be creative," Denise said.  "I like the technology part of the work and the challenges it brings, and maybe most of all I enjoy the non-stop learning opportunities working with the Thorley team and our clients.  I'm able to apply and to build on the experience I've gained over more than three decades in the industry."

In 2000, Denise obtained her FINRA Series 7 and 63 securities registrations, as well as her notary public license.  She is a registered back-office assistant of Commonwealth Financial Network, member FINRA/SIPC.

Denise and her husband, Stephen, have two children, Emily and Eric, daughter-in-law Holly, and granddaughter's Maggie and Aubrey.  In her free time, Denise enjoys being outside working in the yard and flower gardens, reading, and the time she gets to spend with family and friends.

In a touch of irony, one thing Liz Marks never planned on was being in the financial planning industry.

She started in college as a business major but didn’t have a clear direction of where she wanted to end up.  She changed course and continued her studies at Erie Community College hoping that she would find the path she was meant to take.   Upon graduation, she accepted an office position with a Financial Services Firm as an Administrative Assistant.

And, somewhat to her surprise, that first job began to steadily evolve into a career.

"Almost immediately, I began working with the financial advisors and their clients," Liz said. "I began studying for my FINRA securities registrations and gained a lot of hands-on experience.  I pretty quickly came to realize that I enjoyed this -- and that I was good at it."

She earned her FINRA Series 6 and 63 securities registrations in 2002, and since coming to Thorley Wealth Management in 2017, has obtained her notary public license, received her New York health and variable life license, and her Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designations.  By obtaining her CLU® and ChFC®, Liz has moved into a Servicing Advisor position which will allow her to work more closely with clients, specifically in the area of Risk Management.

“I am so happy to be with Thorley Wealth Management where I am getting the opportunity to expand my knowledge and my role within the firm.  I am very excited to be a part of this team and assist in helping clients achieve their financial goals.”

Liz and her husband, Benjamin, enjoy family activities with children Elanna, Lucas and Jordyn.  During the summer months you can find them camping and taking day trips throughout New York State.  They love visiting historical landmarks and going to local attractions.  And Liz, who was born and raised in Buffalo, is a loyal and dedicated football fan. GO BILLS!
